You said YES! Congratulations on your engagement! This is such an exciting season and we hope you take every opportunity to enjoy it!
We know that this season can also be very overwhelming. With never-ending to do lists, you may not know were to begin. So, we wanted to give you this quick guide on the first 5 things you should do as a newly engaged couple.
Announce your engagement
This may seem like a no-brainer, but keep reading. Your engagement is something that you have waited for- and even dreamed about. It’s a special announcement that should be thought out a little bit. We believe that informing your immediate family and friends personally is the best way to ease into your announcement. If your proposal occurs around family and friends, request that they don’t post photos online until the following day, allowing you time to personally call those that couldn’t attend.
Then, post to social media or send out an email newsletter to the rest of your extended family, friends, and acquaintances. We know you want to share this memorable moment with everyone, but the key here is to share the news of your engagement in a way that lets those closest to you share this moment with you first.
Get your ring cleaned, sized, and insured
Show of that ring girl! Everyone is going to want to see that rock on your hand (high five to your fiancé)! Make sure you get it cleaned and sized as you will want to show off that sparkle, and you most certainly do not want it slipping off.
Getting the ring insured is a little bit of an extra step, but we find it extremely beneficial. Depending on the policy you choose; should your ring get stolen, or a stone fall out of your ring, there will be no need to worry as its covered.
Get on the same page (Talk, talk, talk)
Talk with your fiancé about all of your wedding dreams and ideas. Before you begin to put together your bridal party and pick out your dress, you both need to be on the same page. The most important thing to discuss is BUDGET. Please don’t cringe at that word. Trust us, it will really help keep your planning within scope. Also discuss guest count (remember, more people equals a larger budget), colors, season of year to have your wedding, and all the other details on your mind. You both need to be on the same page. Remember to find some middle ground. No arguing, this is about both of you.
Hire a professional Wedding Planner
Now, we know what you are thinking. We just told you a budget is important and then we told you to spend money on a wedding planner. But trust us, the planner is for your benefit. A professional Wedding Planner will be able to create the wedding of your dreams within your BUDGET. A professional planner also has the wedding planning experience to help guide you during your planning process. It’s your vision, but don’t try to execute it alone. Your engagement period will fly by; savor your time and eliminate your stress level by hiring a professional wedding planner.
Take engagement photos
Now that you have the first few orders of business handled; it’s time to have a little fun! Schedule an engagement session with a professional photographer. Pull together some coordinating outfits (try not to match too closely). We strongly encourage engagement photos so you have professionally edited photos for your save the dates and wedding announcements, and just to have to include in your home together. Remember to have fun with these photos! Let your love for each other show!
